MIDLAND MSA CIVILIAN LABOR FORCE GROWS IN MAY

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The Midland metropolitan statistical area (MSA) again posted the lowest unemployment in the state of Texas during the month of May, but the Texas Workforce Commission also reported that the civilian labor force increased by nearly 2,000 compared to May 2023.
The Texas Workforce Commission showed an unemployment rate of 2.4% in the Midland MSA in May. Amarillo (2.8%) and College Station-Bryan (3.0%) rounded out the top 3. Odessa’s jobless rate was 3.2%. The statewide average was 3.8%.
In terms of civilian labor force, the Texas Workforce Commission showed 115,800 in the Midland MSA during the month of May. That number was 114,000 in May 2023. That computes to a growth rate of 1.57%.
“More than 200,000 people have joined the Texas workforce since May 2023, and we continue to lead the nation in year-over-year growth,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel in a press release.
