MPD: RANGERS INVESTIGATING SHOOTING OF ARMED SUBJECT

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- At approximately 2 a.m. Monday (Oct. 7, 2024), officers with the Midland Police Department responded to a call regarding an individual reportedly walking around with a firearm in the vicinity of the intersection of Lamesa Road and Illinois Avenue.

“Upon arrival, officers encountered a shirtless male subject in the middle of the roadway, visibly holding a gun,” MPD reported. “Despite repeated commands from law enforcement to drop the weapon, the suspect refused to comply. In response to the escalating situation and the potential threat to public safety, an officer discharged a single round, striking the suspect in the leg.”

The suspect was medically treated and then taken into custody by the Midland Police Department.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and is being conducted by the Texas Rangers.
