MPD: WEATHERFORD WOMAN DIES IN ATV ACCIDENT

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- At 11:47 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, Midland Police and Fire responded to ATV accident in northern Midland that killed a Weatherford woman.
Midland Police reported that two people were traveling on a Polaris 1000 ATV four-wheeler on a private easement just south of 6600 Shawnee.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver and rear passenger were traveling westbound when the ATV collided with a petroleum pipeline marker, Midland Police reported.
MPD also reported that both the driver and passenger were thrown from the ATV as it began to roll.
“Neither occupant was wearing a helmet,” MPD reported. “It remains undetermined who was operating the ATV.”
Police reported 31-year-old Samuel Richard Merrill was transported for injuries sustained in the rollover, and a 42-year-old woman came to rest approximately 100 feet west of the initial impact point and was pronounced deceased on scene).”
Police are still trying to contact next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.
