BUREAU OF ECONOMIC ANALYSIS: MIDLAND RANKS SECOND IN US IN PER CAPITA PERSONAL INCOME BY METROPOLITAN AREA

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Midland, Texas, ranked second in the nation in per capita personal income by metropolitan area in 2023, according to numbers released Thursday (Nov. 14, 2024) by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The $143,469 in per capita personal income in Midland ranked second to only San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, California ($148,036), according to the BEA. Rounding out the top five were Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk, Connecticut ($139,006), Naples-Marco Island, Florida ($134,527), and San Francisco-Oakland-Berkeley, California ($130,730).
The average in per capita personal income across the U.S. was $69,810.
San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara took the top spot from Midland, which was top-ranked in 2022. The BEA showed per capita personal income by metropolitan area fell 0.6% in Midland in 2023. That decline followed the 20.9% increase in per capita personal income in Midland in 2022 (to $144,469). The percent change in Midland in 2023 was the largest decline of the 384 metropolitan areas ranked.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis reported an average increase of 5.4% in per capita personal income across the United States in 2023.
