MPD: NUMBER OF VEHICLE CRASHES AGAIN FALLING IN 2025

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The number of vehicle crashes inside the City of Midland continues to trend down.
The Midland Police Department reported 1,511 crashes through July – a 2% drop compared to the January through July 2024 and a 12.7% drop compared to the same period in 2023.
MPD leaders had previously credited Safe Passage Initiative programs like “Operation Intersection Intervention,” which focused on Midland’s most dangerous intersections, for decreases.
MPD also reported 485 crashes causing injuries – a total that is up 4% compared to January through July of 2024. MPD statistics also showed the total this year is below the four-year average.
One notable is fatalities appear headed toward a low total since 2022. MPD shows six fatalities in crashes through July. There were 18 fatalities in 2024, 19 in 2023 and 22 in 2022.
