MPD ARRESTS MAN FOLLOWING TUESDAY EVENING FATALITY

(Feb. 11, 2026)

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- At approximately 6:58 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2026), Midland Police Department officers were dispatched to the intersection of Midland Drive and Dengar Avenue in reference to a crash involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male -- later identified as 67-year-old Liborio Garcia of Midland -- in the northbound lanes of Midland Drive. During the investigation, officers located a white 2021 Ford Escape with significant front-end damage and a broken windshield in the parking lot of the Summer Hill Apartments. Witnesses reported that two individuals exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

“Preliminary findings indicate that Garcia was crossing Midland Drive from east to west when he was struck by the Ford Escape, which was traveling northbound in the inside lane,” MPD reported.

Investigators later located a suspect, identified as 23-year-old Jordan McLaughlin, at a nearby apartment.

“During the investigation, McLaughlin admitted to being the driver of the vehicle and leaving the scene without rendering aid,” MPD reported. “McLaughlin was subsequently arrested and booked into the Midland County Detention Center for Collision Involving Death.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
