Posted on: September 5, 2014

[ARCHIVED] City wide traffic alerts and lane closures

School is now back in session, so reduced speed school zones are in effect again. Be alert for an increased number of children walking along and crossing streets all throughout the City, not just in marked school zones. Also, remember that the use of handheld cell phones is prohibited in active school zones.

Mill & Overlay:

The City’s contractor will continue the Fiscal Year 2014 Mill/Overlay Project at Illinois Avenue between Midkiff Road and Andrews Highway. During this phase of the project, the west bound lanes at Illinois Avenue between Midkiff Road and Andrews Highway will be closed. Two-way traffic will be maintained; however, in the east bound lanes of Illinois Avenue.

Emergency Manhole Renovation Project:

The City’s Contractor will continue the Fiscal Year 2014 Emergency Manhole Renovation Project along Midland Draw between Hollandale Drive and Oak Street. Thru traffic will be closed in the draw at east Spruce and east Pecan while construction proceeds. Traffic controls and partial lane or street closures are also possible along sections of Hollandale, east Spruce and east Pecan near Midland Draw while construction is ongoing.

Lamesa Road Pavement Reconstruction:

The City’s Contractor is scheduled to adjust some manholes that have settled along Lamesa Road between Parker Avenue and Cuthbert Street. There will be daytime single lane closures at the locations of the manholes that they are working on.

If possible, motorists are advised to avoid this work zone.

COMPASS: City-Wide Paving:

The City’s Contractor is working at various locations:
• Fairgrounds Road between Nobles Avenue and Golf Course Road will have minimum traffic interruptions for sidewalk work.
• Colorado Street between Stokes Avenue and Gist Avenue will have minimum traffic interruptions for sidewalk work.
• Stokes Avenue between Belmont Street and Main Street will have partial lane closures for water valve adjustments.
