Calls to Midland Fire continue year-over-year increase

FIRE DEPARTMENT CALLS CONTINUE INCREASE IN 2025

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- Calls for Midland Fire Department service have jumped 7.5% in calendar year 2025.

MFD reported that calls for fire, EMS and “other” (those for carbon monoxide, gas meter leaks, lines down, public service fire, HazMat, submerged vehicles, unusual odors) jumped more than 5% during the month of September and raised the total for the year to 17,362. Nearly 78% of all calls this year were for EMS service, according to the MFD.

The greater-than-normal calls from residents living in the county (and outside the city of Midland) continued in September. Nearly 19% of all calls during the made in September came from county residents (a 10.8% increase). For the year, the 3,256 calls for residents in the county is also nearly 19% of calls from January through September and a 10.5% percent compared to the same period during calendar year 2024.
