MIDLAND FIRE REPORTS 5.6% INCREASE IN CALLS IN 2025

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The Midland Fire Department went to more than 23,000 calls in 2025 – a 5.6% increase compared to 2024.

MFD reported that while fire calls actually dropped 2.8% to 653 in 2025, there were increases in EMS calls (4.3%) and “other” calls (10%). All totaled, there were 23,039 calls in 2025.

The 5.6% increase in calls is close to double the normal growth in responses, MFD officials stated.

MFD also reported 74.2% (17,097) of all calls were for EMS services and 22.9% (5,289) were for “other” calls, which are those related to carbon monoxide, gas meter leaks, lines down, public service fire, HazMat, submerged vehicles and unusual odors.

Trends were similar in the county (outside the city). While the number of fire calls fell, the total number of calls in the county increased 1.3% to 4,098.

Total calls actually fell during the month of December thanks to a 53% decrease of calls in the county.
