City of Midland Traffic Alert

[ARCHIVED] Traffic alerts and lane closures

Homestead Street and Drainage Improvements:

The City of Midland is continuing the street and drainage improvement project at 6012 Homestead Blvd. During the project, Homestead Boulevard will be closed between 6008 and 6012 Homestead Blvd. Through traffic will be detoured through adjacent streets till all of the repairs have been completed.

Fairgrounds Road Widening Project:

The contractor working for the City of Midland on the Fairgrounds Road Widening Project will begin construction on Monday, February 29. During construction, the northbound lanes of Fairgrounds Road will be closed between Wadley Avenue and Loop 250.

Utility Extension Program:

The contractor working for the City of Midland on the Utility Extension Program project will be performing work on the east half of Main Street from Illinois Avenue north to Tennessee Avenue, as well as a short portion of Tennessee Avenue immediately west of Main Street. During construction the east half of Main Street will be closed and temporary closures of the entire street or at the intersections with Illinois Avenue, Ohio Avenue, and Tennessee Avenue may occur.

The contractor will also be performing work in the area of Fairgrounds Road from the intersection with Pine Avenue and extending north to the intersection with Cynthia Avenue. During construction, there may be temporary lane closures along Fairgrounds Road, Pine Avenue, and Cynthia Avenue.

The contractor will also be performing work in the area of Florida Avenue (Garden City Highway) approximately 600-ft west of the intersection with Fairgrounds Road. During construction, there will be lane closures with traffic being diverted to one half of the street while construction takes place on the other half. There may also be other temporary lane closures due.

Midkiff Road to Horseshoe Arena Waterline Extension Project:

The contractor working for the City of Midland on the Midkiff Road to Horseshoe Arena Waterline Extension Project will be performing work in the area of south Garfield Street. During construction the outer south-bound lane may be closed while the work is completed. The area of construction will include a section of south Garfield Street at the main Horseshoe Arena entrance north of I-20.

The contractor will also be performing work in the area of the intersection of Midkiff Road and Industrial Avenue. During construction, several sections of south Midkiff Road may be reduced by one or more lanes or the intersection may be partially closed while the work is completed.

TxDOT: I-20 Project will reconfigure ramps serving West Loop 250:

A project to reconfigure Interstate 20 ramps that service West Loop 250 and rebuild frontage roads is underway. The nearly year-long project will have several traffic pattern changes during the course of construction. The speed limit in the 1.4-mile area will be reduced to 55 miles per hour. Concrete traffic barriers will be in place in part of the work zone to help protect work crews. All lanes will be open for the majority of the project.

TxDOT: Traffic Signal Installation on FM 1788:

A project to install traffic signals on FM 1788 just north and south of Business Interstate 20 in Midland County is underway. Traffic signals will be put in at both Younger Road and County Road 127. Lanes will be kept open as much as possible, but delays and detours will happen at times. Both traffic signals will include arrows for left turn lanes. Work will be done simultaneously at both locations.

TxDOT: Traffic Signal Repair on West Loop 250 and I-20:

A traffic signal on the south service road of Interstate 20 at West Loop 250 in Midland has a defect in its infrastructure and will be taken down as a safety precaution. Both intersections of West Loop 250 and the I-20 service roads will be put in a four-way stop mode until further notice. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
