[ARCHIVED] Carver Street Bridge Construction

Construction is scheduled to begin March 12 to replace the low-water crossing at Carver Street and Scharbauer Drive with a bridge.

The new concrete bridge is designed to eliminate a low-water crossing which can become hazardous during flood events, and improve pedestrian and vehicle safety. “We are excited to be moving forward with this improvement,” stated City Councilman John B. Love, III, in whose district the project is located. “All children deserve a safe route to school. This new bridge, with ramps and sidewalks, will make that a reality,” Love concluded.

The project also entails construction of new drainage basins designed to improve conditions during storm-water episodes, and repaving of the road surface within the construction zone.

Work is expected to last until early September. During this time, Carver Street between Elm Avenue and Scharbauer Drive will be closed. Access to Elm Avenue via Carver Street will remain open.
