Notifiable conditions are certain health conditions and diseases that are required by Texas law to be reported to the local health authorities for follow-up and investigation.

Texas laws (Health & Safety Code, Chapters 81, 84, and 87) require specific information regarding notifiable conditions be provided to local health departments. Healthcare providers, hospitals, laboratories, schools, and others are required to report patients who are suspected of having a notifiable condition (Chapter 97, Title 25, Texas Administrative Code).

We are trying to contact you to interview about a notifiable condition of public health significance, to gather more information in case of possible outbreaks.

If you fell ill after eating at a local restaurant, you can report this to us at environmentalservices@midlandtexas.gov.

We do not test food at the Health Department. In outbreak situations, we may collect food for the State Health Department to test.

The World Health Organization defines an outbreak as the occurrence of cases of disease more than what would normally be expected in a defined community, geographical area, or season.
