BLUMENAUER TO BECOME CITY'S MANAGING DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Fire Chief Chuck Blumenauer will be transitioning to the role of Managing Director of Public Safety. This move is a key component of the city's new strategic plan, emphasizing enhanced safety, community engagement and exercising our succession planning program. This move continues Chief Blumenauer in his managerial role while developing others in the Fire Department senior ranks.
In his new role, Chief Blumenauer will oversee the comprehensive safety operations of Midland, ensuring the city's fire, Animal Services, Health Department and emergency services are well-coordinated and effectively managed as the city continues to see fast paced growth.
City Manager Tommy Gonzalez stated, “Chief Blumenauer’s extensive experience and dedication to public safety make him the perfect fit for this role. His leadership will be instrumental in driving our strategic initiatives and maintaining Midland’s status as a safe and vibrant community.”
As part of this transition, Michael Tully will assume the position of Interim Fire Chief. Chief Tully brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to the fire department, ensuring a seamless continuation of leadership and operational excellence. A lifelong resident of Midland, Chief Tully has dedicated over 20 years of service to the Midland Fire Department. Prior to this selection, Tully has served as the Assistant Chief of Administration, overseeing personnel, training, Emergency Management and EMS.
“Michael Tully has demonstrated outstanding leadership and expertise,” said Blumenauer. “I am confident that he will continue to uphold the high standards of the Midland Fire Department during this interim period.”
This leadership transition is designed to support Midland’s long-term goals by ensuring that all departments are aligned with the city’s strategic plan. The plan focuses on enhancing public safety, fostering community partnerships and preparing for future challenges through effective succession planning.
