CALLS TO COUNTY DRIVE MFD RUN INCREASE IN AUGUST

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- A greater-than-normal calls from residents living in the county were the main reason for a busier August for the Midland Fire Department.
All totaled, Midland Fire Department officials answered 1,947 calls for fire, EMS or other services – a 4% (76-call) increase compared to August 2024. The Fire Department reported calls from residents living outside the city jumped from 348 in August 2024 to 423 last month (a difference of 75 calls).
In fact, in August, calls from the county comprised 21.7% of all calls MFD responded to during the month. In July, that percentage was 16.7. This year, that percentage has been 18.7.
EMS calls still make up a vast majority of calls for Fire Department officials. In August, the 1,393 calls for EMS made up 71.5% of all calls. In August 2024, that percentage was actually 77.2. So far this calendar year, EMS calls have made up nearly 74% of all calls to MFD.
“Other” calls jumped in August 2025, making up 25.7% of all calls. “Other” calls include those for carbon monoxide, gas meter leaks, lines down, public service fire, HazMat, submerged vehicles, unusual odors, etc.
