Firefighter Qualifications

Firefighter Base Yearly Salary Range: $60,652 - $63, 372

Applicants must possess both the TCFP Basic Fire certification and the Texas DSHS EMT-B certification, along with other specified qualifications. Applicants lacking these certifications will be considered for the Fire Recruit position.

Firefighter applicants will be ranked on a hiring list based on written test scores and physical agility test results. Those selected will undergo oral interviews. Based on interview board recommendations, applicants will either proceed with the City of Midland employment process or not be considered for employment.
Individuals with either a TCFP Basic Suppression Certification or a DSHS EMT-B/Paramedic certification are encouraged to apply for the Fire Recruit position. Advancement on the hiring list is possible as required certifications are obtained.

All applicants must have a clean driving record and be between 18 and 35 years old at the time of appointment. A valid Texas driver’s license is required prior to appointment.

Additional Requirements Include:

  • Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Fire Suppression Certification
  • Current National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification or Texas DSHS EMT-B certification. Preference given to Texas DSHS or National Registry Paramedic certification.
  • Successful completion of all entrance testing processes, including:
    •  written examination
    • physical agility test
    • oral interview
    • medical physical
    • background checks.
