FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: GOV. ABBOTT TO ALLOW FOR FLAGS TO BE LOWERED TO HONOR CORRALES

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The City of Midland announced that Texas Governor Greg Abbott authorized the flags of the State of Texas and the United States of America be lowered to the half-staff position in honor of the life and public service of Dan Corrales.
The former Midland city councilman passed away this week at age 45.
“Individuals, businesses, municipalities, counties and other political subdivisions and entities in the surrounding area may fly flags at half-staff for the same period of time as a sign of honor and respect,” Gov. Abbott wrote. “The First Lady and I extend prayers of comfort for the Corrales family during their time of grief, and we urge all Texans to remember and honor Dan’s service as a dedicated public servant.”
Midland Mayor Lori Blong had made the request to Gov. Abbott earlier in the week “in recognition of Councilman Corrales’ significant impact and out of respect for his years of service.” The gesture, she wrote, “will serve as a symbol of our collective mourning and appreciation for his dedicated service to our community.”
“It is with great sorrow that we inform you of the sudden passing of Dan Corrales,” Blong wrote in the letter to the governor. “He served our community with unwavering dedication, commitment and a passion for public service. High contributions to Midland, Texas, have left an indelible mark on our local government, and he will deeply be missed by his colleagues, constituents and friends alike.
Flags should return to full-staff on Friday, February 9, 2024, according to Gov. Abbott.
