One woman was declared deceased on scene following a near head-on collision in the 1100 block of South FM 1788.
Midland Police and Fire Departments were called out to the scene of the accident, located south of the Highway 191 intersection, at approximately 12:59 p.m. Thursday.
Claudine Clark, 75, of Odessa, was declared deceased on scene as a result of the two-vehicle accident.
The investigation into the accident revealed that the driver of a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe was preparing to make a left turn when the driver of a black Mercury Mountaineer traveling behind it failed to notice the Tahoe in time and swerved to the right to avoid hitting the Tahoe. The driver of the Mountaineer then over-corrected and swerved left into oncoming southbound traffic, striking the southbound silver Lincoln Zephyr that Clark was driving.
Three passengers in the Mountaineer were transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident caused Midland Police Department officers, with the assistance of TxDOT, to close both directions of traffic along FM 1788 for several hours.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing and next of kin has been notified.
