[ARCHIVED] Police arrest more suspects in vehicle burglary cases

In a continued attempt to crack down on vehicle burglars, the Midland Police Department has arrested two more suspects for stealing items out of cars.

Avery Nelson, 18, and Alexander Martinez, 17, were recently apprehended and charged with burglary of motor vehicles.

Police were alerted to a vehicle burglary incident on Sunday morning after a neighbor witnessed Nelson burglarizing a vehicle around 7:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of Weatherford Street. The neighbor told Nelson not to steal, then told the suspect to wait outside while the neighbor retrieved cash to give to him. Instead, the neighbor called police from inside the house and detained Nelson until police arrived and arrested him.

The investigation into the incident revealed that Nelson had attempted to burglarize several vehicles that morning with the assistance of Martinez. Police obtained a warrant for the arrest of Martinez on Tuesday and took him into custody on Wednesday.

The Midland Police Department continues to stress the importance of locking the doors of your vehicle and taking your belongings with you to avoid becoming a victim of habitual vehicle burglars.
