[ARCHIVED] Suspect in homicide apprehended

The suspect in a Monday morning homicide that occurred in Midland was apprehended by authorities in Forth Worth the same evening.

Leeroy Laney, 38, was arrested and charged with the murder of Stephanie Turner, 30, who was found unresponsive in her home Monday morning.

Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to Turner's residence in the 3100 block of West Kansas Avenue at approximately 9:14 a.m. after receiving a call from an individual who had visited the home and was told by Turner's two young children that she was deceased.

Investigators could not determine the cause of death on scene and the victim's body was sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy. The investigation revealed that the homicide had most likely taken place overnight and that Laney was Turner's live-in boyfriend at the time. Laney, who was not on scene when police arrived, was identified as the suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Laney fled toward Fort Worth, where he was apprehended Monday evening by the U.S. Marshal Service North Texas Fugitive Task Force with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Service Midland Task Force.

Next of kin has been notified and the investigation into the incident continues.
