Javaid Anwar and his family were recognized at Tuesday's City Council meeting for their $100,000 “challenge donation” to the Parks & Recreation Endowment Fund.
These funds will be available to match up to $100,000 donated by other residents and businesses to the endowment fund, which is a permanent savings fund established to provide long-term funding for all Midland parks. A portion of the endowment’s value may be withdrawn periodically to benefit the parks while the balance is prudently invested for long-term growth and new gifts are added over time.
The Midland Parks & Recreation Commission is now challenging citizens to make tax-deductible contributions to the fund over the next year, which is the duration of the Anwar family's challenge donation, by visiting supportmidlandparks.com. A “Recognition Tree” will be displayed to recognize those who sponsor the endowment fund, with bronze leaves depicting $500 donations, a silver leaf for $1,000 donations, and a gold leaf for a $5,000 donation.
