A Midland woman was arrested before the weekend on forgery charges following an investigation by the Midland Police Department’s financial crimes unit.
Officers discovered that 35-year-old Cynthia Romero was stealing items, including checks, through a housekeeping business she owned called Cindy’s Cleaning Service. The stolen checks were then forged and passed by Romero and her accomplices. Many of Romero’s customers were elderly citizens, and the theft is believed to have happened between May and September of 2014.
MPD officers arrested Romero at her residence on Friday, Nov. 7. Before her arrest, officers arrived to Romero’s residence in South Midland to serve her with felony warrants. There, they spoke with Romero’s daughter, 17-year-old Valerie Romero Walden, who denied knowing where her mother was. Walden pushed, kicked and scratched a detective and an officer.
Officers found Romero hiding in a bedroom underneath a headboard and a mattress and took her into custody. Walden was also arrested and charged with assault on a peace officer and hindering apprehension.
The investigation is ongoing. If you believe you may have been a victim, call MPD at 432-685-7108.
