Traffic signals at four intersections along Missouri Avenue in downtown Midland will be permanently converted to all-way stop signs beginning Thursday, March 19, reducing overall wait time for drivers in the area.
The intersections, which are at A Street, Marienfeld Street, Colorado Street and Loraine Street, no longer warrant traffic signals after the City of Midland’s Transportation Division performed extensive review of signals throughout the City for ongoing timing changes and other maintenance activities. Due to the relatively sporadic traffic patterns along Missouri, it is expected that this change will result in a reduction in overall delay for most users of the intersections.
Late last year, City Council approved an ordinance allowing for the installation of all-way stop signs at these intersections in place of the traffic signals. The signals will remain in place with flashing red lights for at least two weeks following installation of the stop signs on Thursday to alert motorists to the change.
