The City of Midland is reminding motorists of the start of a new school year and to be on the lookout for school zones in effect.
Midland Charter Academy, St. Ann's School, Midland Christian School and Trinity School begin or have begun classes this week, followed by The Hillander School on Monday, Aug. 24 and Midland Independent School District on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Motorists are urged to obey the school zone signs as speed limits can vary. Speeding through a school zone can result in up to a $200 citation. Drivers are also prohibited from using handheld devices for phone calls and texting when in an active school zone.
