To help spread the word about the dangers of texting while driving, the Midland Municipal Court is holding a video contest for high school students.
The contest starts the day the City of Midland’s new anti-texting and driving ordinance comes into effect, Oct. 1, and lasts through Oct. 23. All kids in seventh through 12th grades are invited to record and submit a one- to two-minute video that addresses the dangers of texting and driving.
Videos ranging from funny to serious are encouraged and must be submitted via a YouTube link to ddelosrios@midlandtexas.gov.
Teen Court will also grant community service credit to Municipal Court juveniles who submit a video while attending Teen Court.
Participants will have their work recognized during Municipal Court Week on Nov. 2-6, and winners will be honored in a special ceremony.
Videos with offensive material or that clearly indicate an actor texting while actually driving will be disqualified.
The Midland Municipal Court strives to promote traffic safety and awareness. For more information, please contact Juvenile Services Coordinator David de los Rios at 432-685-7312 or ddelosrios@midlandtexas.gov.
