[ARCHIVED] MFD to hold groundbreaking ceremony for new Station 6

The Midland Fire Department will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its newest fire station at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Construction crews have already begun work on Fire Station No. 6, which will be located 301 Tradewinds Blvd., at the southwest corner of Champions Dr. and Tradewinds Blvd. The groundbreaking ceremony, held at the same location, will honor the hard work and generosity of all involved in the $4.4 million project, which is expected to be completed by summer 2017.

The new station will feature three engine bays, a study, kitchen, and housing area for firefighter/paramedics. It will house multiple emergency response apparatus to respond to emergencies within the Station 6 district. The new location on Tradewinds Boulevard will allow MFD to better serve nearby growing and established areas.

"The new station location is where we saw the greatest access to the area with the ability to house a facility that could house current and future resources for the district," said Fire Chief Robert Isbell.

Mid-Tex of Midland, Inc. is the contractor for the project, and Parkhill, Smith and Cooper of Midland provided design and engineering services.
