[ARCHIVED] Motorcyclist still in critical condition after Highway 191 accident

A Midland motorcyclist remained in critical condition Monday morning after an accident Friday near the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center.

Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident at approximately 5:23 p.m. Friday in the 11000 block of Highway 191. The operator of the motorcycle, 22-year-old Amado Sotelo of Midland, was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the crash revealed that the eastbound motorcycle was entering the main lanes of Highway 191 from the south service road when Sotelo attempted to cross from the entrance ramp to the inside lane of traffic. Sotelo lost control of the motorcycle, causing him to leave the roadway and drive onto the center median. Sotelo, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle. At this time there is no evidence suggesting that another vehicle was involved, and speed is being considered as a factor.
