The Midland Police Department will host an appreciation party for National Night Out block captains from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 at Stonegate Fellowship, 6000 W. Wadley Ave.

Block captains are those who have chosen to lead a neighborhood block party for National Night Out on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The deadline to register a neighborhood party is Sept. 28, and potential block captains are invited to attend the appreciation party Thursday evening. Citizens can call and register their block party by calling 432-685-7582.

National Night Out is a nationwide crime prevention event designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back against crime.
