[ARCHIVED] City of Midland videos earn two statewide awards

TATOA Awards

The City of Midland's multimedia work was recognized with two awards at the annual Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors conference in Austin on Sept. 19-22.

The programming awards recognize outstanding video work from across the state. Judging is conducted by non-TATOA members who are experts in programming.

City of Midland won first place in the Event and Program Promotion category for its promotional video for the 80's Costume 5K/10K and Disco Fun Run that took place in April. The City's internal training and recruiting video, "Midland Fire Department Agility Test: What to Expect," earned second place in the Instruction/Training category.

Both videos were created and edited by Multimedia Developer Joseph Sampson, who began working for the City of Midland's Public Information Office in May 2013. Since then, Sampson has won several awards for his work each year at TATOA. All of the City of Midland's videos can be viewed at, and depend on volunteer talent by City employees and local personalities.

"We work each year to provide informative content for our employees and citizens on a shoestring budget," said Public Information Officer Sara Bustilloz. "Joseph produces videos that are engaging, quality, and entertaining, which has enabled us to grow our reach, especially on digital platforms. We are excited to see his work recognized as the best among his peers."

TATOA is an organization for professionals who are responsible for telecommunication policies, services and video programming in local governments.
