A Midland police officer was transported to the hospital with serious injuries after he lost control of his vehicle during a high speed pursuit with a motorcyclist Wednesday afternoon.
Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident at approximately 2:23 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Loop 250 between Highway 80 and Interstate 20. The investigation revealed that the officer was pursuing the operator of a black motorcycle that was weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed in the southbound main lanes of South Loop 250 West. The officer lost control of his patrol cruiser for unknown reasons after driving on the Highway 80 overpass and slid into the median toward the service road, with the vehicle rolling momentarily on its side and coming to rest in an upright position.
The officer was partially ejected from the vehicle and was provided aid by witnesses before officials arrived. He was responsive on scene and transported to the hospital for serious injuries. The motorcyclist continued southbound and was not on scene when officials arrived.
Any individuals with information about the motorcyclist involved are encouraged to call the Midland Police Department at 432-685-7108. The investigation into the pursuit and accident continues.
