[ARCHIVED] City Hosts Halloween Fun

The City of Midland is hosting multiple events to encourage safe and fun trick-or-treating.

The fun kicks off with the Midland Fire Department’s fifth annual Truck or Treat Halloween carnival on Saturday, October 20 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event will take place at Central Fire Station, 1500 W. Wall and will span seven blocks on W. Texas Avenue from F Street to M Street.

The free event features a bean bag toss, football throw, cupcake walk, haunted house, jumper, and even fire hose practice; but the benefit to the community extends beyond candy.

Attendees will have the opportunity to receive CPR training, stroke recognition education, complete child ID kits, and witness a simulated vehicle rescue operation. Last year, the event reached approximately 10,000 attendees with fire safety and life-saving techniques. The Fire Department expects at least as many attendees this year.

“An event of this size would not be possible without the support of our volunteers,” shared Fire Captain Aaron Cox. “We are so grateful to our community partners like the Abel-Hanger Foundation, Junior League of Midland and many others.” In 2017, over 30 organizations volunteered to run games and booths, and over 3,500 pounds of candy were distributed.

On Thursday, October 25 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the fun continues with the Parks and Recreation Division’s Halloween Fest at the Martin Luther King Junior Recreation Center, 2300 Butternut Lane. This event started as a neighborhood Halloween celebration and has grown every year! “We love seeing families come back year after year,” said Joey Jolly, Recreation Superintendent. Halloween Fest will feature face painting, games, a photo booth, and many opportunities to trick or treat for candy and prizes! Costumes are encouraged and the event is free to attend.

If you just can’t get enough candy, a third candy collection opportunity exists with Midland Police Department’s Truck or Treat event. The fun will take place on Monday, October 29 at the Scharbauer Sports Complex’s parking lot and will run from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The gathering will feature officers and their vehicles decked out in the Halloween spirit. Help be a part of the City’s newest Halloween tradition!
